We chose our topic by doing a topic that other individuals wouldn't do or something that no one really thought of. We had ideas about doing something involving Hitler or the Nazis but it started to become too popular around our school. So we knew that we wanted to choose a topic around this type of thing. We started going through some of the wars that had happened around the world in the 1900's and we saw that the Russo-Japanese war was one of them and we started getting heavily interested in it. It was a war that we didn't hear nor know about so we did a small research and looked it up. By the end, we knew that this had to be our topic and eventually it was. it also fit in right with the theme of this years NHD because one of the countries ended having the rights to Korea and the war ended up being responsible for the revolt of 1905 and someone had to be responsible for the war cost.
The type of research we did was difficult at first because there wasn't many sites that went into detail of what happened during the. We found one website in particular that had lots of information (russojapaneswar.com). It had a website that had many sources added on to it so we knew that it was a website that we can trust. We went through it and saw some of the major battles during the war and saw that some of them weren't listed so we just happened to look them up online. We were also lucky to find some primary sources of Admiral Togo (Japan).
We have made a history day project before so when we heard that we would have to do one this year we knew that it would be a lot easier than last time. In 8th grade we did a website and we knew how to do the project already so we thought why go through the stress of figuring out how to do an exhibit. Since we had done a project before we knew that we had to go to weebly.com and make an account, after that the rest was research, research, and some more research.
Warning: there are spoilers to who won the war up ahead!!! After Japan won the Russo-Japanese war, the Empire of Japan now had control over parts of Manchuria and Korea. Since Japan won the war and received Korea as a prize, you could say that Japan had the right to control Korea. Japan soon annexed Korea and brought more responsibilities upon itself protecting a land that was not connected to the main country.
